Police fires teargas shells in Central Prison Hyderabad during a search operation.—Online

HYDERABAD: Seven prisoners were killed while more than 20 sustained injuries in a clash that broke out between police and prisoners in Central Jail on Tuesday, DawnNews reported.

The prisoners were protesting against the new Superintendent Police (SP) and refused to co-operate.

Police lobbed tear gas shells and started firing after negotiations with the prisoners failed and they refused to end the protest.

One Police official also got injured when the prisoners started hurling stones during the protest.

The Jail doctor had confirmed the death toll.

Later, police conducted a search operation in the jail and recovered 600 mobile phones, two Kalashnikovs and six pistols from prisoners.
