LAHORE, March 10: A constable reportedly shot dead two alleged outlaws fleeing the scene after committing a house robbery, after giving them a long chase with the help of a local in Baghbanpura on Thursday. Reports said the robbers, yet to be identified, barged in a house in Rashidpura in Harbanspura police precincts. They deprived the two people present inside the house of cash and other valuables and left the place on a motorcycle.

One of the robbery victims, identified as Muhammad Ali, alerted his neighbours and other area residents about the incident.

Meanwhile, the panicked robbers left their motorbike in the street and fled the scene on a motorcycle-rickshaw after taking its driver hostage.

The police said a local, Naseer, who had noticed the fleeing robbers, started chasing them on his motorbike secretly. After chasing the outlaws for about two kilometres, Naseer approached a constable, standing outside a school and informed him of the situation.

Constable Ashraf joined the chase on Naseer’s bike and the both kept following the outlaws for another two kilometres till they reached near Sukh Nehr.

On noticing they were being chased by two bikers, one of them a policeman in uniform, the robbers left the motorcycle-rickshaw and tried to flee on a motorcycle they snatched from a passerby.

The police said one of the outlaws fired a bullet at the chasing duo that was returned by Constable Ashraf, injuring the two outlaws. The police claimed one of them died on the spot while the other succumbed to his wounds on way to hospital.

The bodies were shifted to the city morgue for autopsy.

The police high-ups hailed the daring act of the constable and the local.
