KARACHI, Feb 26: Diya Women Football Club will be featuring in a documentary 'Children of the World' produced by the UNICEF. Among other things, the documentary to be released on the UNICEF website on Sunday focuses on how football has come about to help children from lower-income homes progress in their aims and objectives in life.

“The production unit interviewed members of the Diya Club, namely, Fatima Ansari, Mariam Laghari, Hajra Khan and myself to gain a better understanding of how we support women, especially, girls under the age of 16 through football,” informed Diya Club owner and General Secretary Sadia Sheikh while speaking to Dawn on Saturday.

“The UNICEF plans to release the film, which is of around 20 to 25-minute duration, on its website but I have requested them to have it aired on television as well because I want more people to know about our work here,” she said.

“We face so many problems in our promoting the game among women. For starters we don't have a ground. Had we a ground, we would have made more women teams. Then most of the girls hail from poor homes and can't even afford shoes. Highlighting such problems will hopefully get us more support of the people,” she hoped.
