KARACHI, Oct 8: The Karachi University Teachers’ Society (KUTS) on Tuesday reiterated its demand to the Sindh governor and chancellor of public-sector universities to initiate a judicial inquiry against the administrative officials responsible for the Sept 7 incident on the campus.
The demands were made at the first meeting of the newly- elected 21-member executive council, presided over by KUTS president Sarwar Nasim.
The Council also demanded that KU vice-chancellor tender resignation from the post and seek unconditional apology for unleashing a reign of terror on teachers and students of the varsity on Sept 7.
The teachers’ forum deplored the suspension of Dr Yasmeen Rashid of the Fatima Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, president Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), for opposing the model university ordinance and the formation of board of governors in hospitals.
Terming her suspension victimization with an intention to suppress opposition to the World Bank-sponsored reforms in the health sector, the meeting demanded of the governor of Punjab to withdraw the suspension order.
The Council also condoled the death of Dr Haseen Fatima of the KU Zoology Department.
COMMITTEE: The grievances committee at Karachi University has received some 140 cases, a spokesman for the KU said.
He said all the cases have been referred to the concerned deans of the faculty where these employees are posted.
The head of the grievances committee, Dr Abdul Rashid, has assured that all the cases would be disposed of on the basis of merit.—PPI/APP
