KARACHI, Feb 24: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has urged all registered Afghans to get their Proof of Registration (PoR) cards renewed before the deadline of Feb 28.

The authority, says a press release, started the process of replacing old PoR cards with secure cards in September last year. The process concludes on Feb 28.

Nadra's deputy chairman Tariq Malik has said that since September, 1,365,000 new PoR cards had been issued by 45 centres across the country. The figure includes 230,049 cards issued to children previously registered on their parents' cards and 96,608 previously unregistered members of registered families.

Mr Malik said the registered Afghans who had not yet renewed their cards should approach the nearest registration centre by Feb 28, so that UNHCR's deadline could be met and their data could be updated.
