PESHAWAR, Feb 9: An anti-terrorism court here on Wednesday granted bail to a suspect arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a leading physician, Intikhab Alam.

The court presided over by Anwar Ali Khan accepted an application filed by the accused, Dilawar Khan, directing him to furnish two sureties of Rs500,000 each.

The physician was kidnapped from his private health facility, Tashfeen Hospital, here on Oct 7, 2010. The complainant in the case was a fellow doctor, Miran Shah, who alleged that the kidnappers were traveling in a vehicle carrying official registration plate.

The complainant stated that the kidnappers entered the hospital, handcuffed Dr Intikhab Alam and took him away. Initially, he added, they presumed that it was a raiding team of FIA (Federal Investigation Agency) but later on they came to know that he was kidnapped for ransom. The FIR of the case was registered under section 7 of the Anti Terrorism Act and section 365A of Pakistan Penal Code at Gulfath Hussain Shaheed police station. —Bureau Report
