OKARA, Feb 5: A man killed his newborn daughter by smashing her against the ground after a domestic dispute at Mirak village late on Sunday.

Reports said Muhammad Sharif and his wife Tasleem Bibi had frequent quarrels over domestic issues.

On Sunday night, Sharif left the house following yet another quarrel with his wife. After some time he returned to his house along with his three relatives -- Khurshid Bibi, Maqsood Bibi and Shahbaz --- and started thrashing Tasleem.

In a fit of rage, Sharif snatched his daughter from Tasleem and smashed her against the floor. The suckling died on the spot.

Later, a case was registered against the accused at Chuchak police station on the orders of Additional District and Session Judge Chaudhry Shafiqur Rehman. SHOT DEAD:

A woman was shot dead by her husband who later also shot himself injured in a suicide bid at Deepalpur.

Reports said Ali of Khalilabad Colony had married Munawar Bibi about six months ago. The couple had frequent quarrels.

On Sunday night a quarrel again erupted between the husband and wife following which Ali opened fire leaving Munawar dead on the spot.

Later, realising gravity of his act, Ali shot himself to commit suicide.

He was referred to a Lahore hospital by local doctors given his critical condition. Deepalpur city police have registered a case against the accused. RALLY:

The Jamaat-i-Islami held a motorcycle-rickshaw rally here to show solidarity with Kashmir people.

The rally led by JI district head Sheikh Muhammad Farooq took a round of the city. The participants raised slogans in support of freedom of Kashmir.

At Gole Chowk the rally turned into a public meeting which was addressed by Anjumane Tajiran city president Chaudhry Saleem Sadiq and secretary general Malik Qadeer Hussain.

They expressed unity with Kashmiris in their struggle for freedom from India.

Meanwhile, the Ahle-Hadith Youth Force and the Central Jamiate Ahle-Hadith arranged a seminar on Kashmir at the local press club.
