KARACHI, Feb 4: Three men were shot dead on Friday in separate incidents of firing which police believed were motivated by personal enmity.

In Orangi Town, 27-year-old Raja Tahir was sitting with some people near his house when armed men riding a motorbike targeted him, said an official at the Mominabad police station.

The official said: “Two men on a motorbike stopped near Marhaba Medical Centre where Tahir was sitting with some area people in the early hours of Friday. One of the riders, clad in shalwar-kameez, got off the motorbike and opened fire on Tahir.”

He said the victim sustained three gunshot wounds and died on the spot, while the armed men sped away. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

“The victim hailed from Rawalpindi and settled here a few months ago,” said Mominabad SHO Sub-Inspector Inayatullah Marwat.

He said that initial investigations and interaction with the family indicated that the victim was facing a threat due to some domestic dispute.

In Afridi Colony of Orangi Town No 10, 35-year-old Mohammad Jan was returning home from work in the evening when he was shot dead.

“Two men on a motorbike spotted him near Medina Medical Centre and fired a single shot before fleeing,” said an official of the Mominabad police station. The victim received a bullet in the head and died on the spot, he added.

“The victim was a labourer in an industrial unit. He hailed from Swat and lived alone at a rented place.”

The police suspected personal enmity as a motive behind the murder.

In the New Karachi area, a young man was killed due to suspected enmity on Friday afternoon.

Police said that 33-year-old Sarzamin Jan had an altercation with a man on a motorbike before being shot dead by the latter.

The police added that the victim came out of Masjid-i-Bilal in Khamiso Goth after offering Friday prayers and met the rider. “Witnesses said they saw the rider and the victim engaged in a brief argument before the rider pulled out a pistol and fired at him,” said an official at the New Karachi Industrial Area police station. “He was hit by a single bullet in the head fired from a very close range.”

The official added that the victim had come to the area to see his in-laws and the incident seemed a result of some personal enmity.

Woman killed

A young woman, Kausar Perveen, was killed and her husband, Muhammad Rizwan, injured when the motorbike they were riding was hit by a fast-moving minibus in a Korangi area, police said.

The police added that the motorcycle was hit by an F-11 route minibus from the rear side near Qayyumabad intersection. The bus driver escaped from the scene.
