Soomro’s rejoinder to Mirani

Published October 5, 2002

KARACHI, Oct 4: The spokesman for the Sindh Governor, Mohammedmian Soomro, said on Friday that the governor has never appealed to the public to support certain candidates in the forthcoming elections.

The spokesman, while referring to Aftab Shaban Mirani’s press conference, termed the allegations, levelled by the PPP Shikarpur leader, baseless and misleading.

He said that the Sindh Governor and the provincial government “are bent on holding fair and free elections,” adding that the governor has been urging the public to bring forward sincere, reform-minded and humanitarian candidates.

He described misinterpretation of his speeches impertinent, saying that the governor has neither been opposing nor favouring any particular candidate.—PPI
