RAWALPINDI, Jan 27: MNA Shaikh Aftab Ahmed of PML-N was issued notice by the LHC Rawalpindi bench on Thursday in a petition filed against him by a voter of his constituency NA-57 Attock-1 seeking his disqualification over fake graduation degree.

Justice Ijaz Ahmed of the LHC Rawalpindi bench issued notice to the MNA and directed him to submit his para-wise comments within three weeks in the court regarding the petition filed by Abdul Sattar, a voter of his constituency.

Making the MNA and returning officer respondents, the petitioner through his lawyer Sardar Zaheer Ahmed Khan maintained that Sheikh Aftab could not contest 2002 election for not having graduation degree but won the 2008 general elections claiming to be a graduate.

“It is necessary to get the intermediate certificate and the graduation degree of the MNA verified from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) as the credentials of other MNAs were being scrutinized,” the petitioner maintained.

The petitioner also contended that the MNA while filing the nomination papers concealed the facts about his assets. “The concealment of facts is an offence and legal action should be taken against him,” he said.

It was alleged in the petition that the PML-N legislator occupied the public land and constructed a house. The case regarding the land was laying pending before a civil court in Attock.

The petitioner also alleged that the MNA encroached upon a piece of land belonging to the National Highway Authority (NHA) to construct his CNG station.

“The MNA got his relative appointed as legal adviser to the Town Municipal Office in Attock,” Abdul Sattar alleged. — Our Reporter
