LAHORE, Jan 8: An accountability court on Saturday summoned former director Haj, Major Rao Shakeel Ahmad (retired), in a reference filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Earlier, the court had exempted him from appearing in person due to his official engagements being district coordination officer of Khanewal.

The NAB filed an application, saying the accused was not on any job assignment, therefore exemption should be withdrawn. The court, therefore, summoned the accused for Jan 21.

The accused is in custody of FIA’s Rawalpindi circle on charges of committing corruption in Haj operations.

As per the reference, Shakeel in connivance with his father Rao Abdul Jalil Khan and a relative, Rao Faheem Hashim, (now died), former assistance commissioner, Ferozewala, got fake documents prepared from GHQ in the name of Border Area Committee chairman and got allotted hundreds of kanals of land in Aouliapur Chak Maqboolpura village.
