LAHORE: Pakistan Hockey Federation secretary Asif Bajwa has said they are considering issuing show-cause notices to the players who violated federation’s code of conduct by giving press statements over some issues.

Captain Zeeshan Ashraf and goalkeeper Salman Akbar had expressed their concerns over not receiving the prize money announced by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani for winning gold medal in the Asian Games, held in Guangzhou, China.

The prime minister had announced cash prizes for all the medal winners of the Asian Games, including the national hockey team.

Zeeshan had also criticised PHF’s decision of disallowing players over 30 years of age, except members of the Pakistan team, to participate in national competitions.

“The PHF is considering serving show-cause notices to the players as according to the code of conduct they have signed, they are not allowed to slam PHF policies in public or media,” Bajwa said.

The secretary said Zeeshan should not have spoken on such policies as no member of the Pakistan team suffered due to the ban on over-30-year-old players.

He claimed that a good number of young players got jobs in different departments after this policy.

Bajwa said the PHF would organise a workshop in near future, teaching players to improve their conduct.
