KARACHI, Sept 29: Number of secured workers falling under the Sindh Employees Social Security Institutions (SESSI) would be enhanced up to the set target of 245,000 by June 30th, 2003.

Sindh labour and industries minister, Dewan Yousuf Farooqui who is also chairman of SESSI, was informed of this during the 117th meeting of the governing body of the institution the other day. The meeting was chaired by the minister.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister urged the members of the governing body to ensure expeditious, effective and long-lasting measures with the objective to raise the efficiency level of SESSI.

“The foremost objective in this regard should be to extend help to labours and destitute workers enabling them to secure maximum mileage in addition to the best available health facilities, which is their right”. “In order to accomplish this objective it is incumbent upon all of them to visit hospitals falling under the institution and point out lacunas in their working, besides suggesting measures for their eradication”, the minister said.

Secretary labour Sindh Raja Abbas, in his briefing, informed the minister that more than 200,000 workers in Sindh were not secured as yet under SESSI and efforts were on to maximize the benefits to workers and labourers.

“With a view to accomplish this objective, practical and viable efforts are underway which would yield positive results in the coming days ahead.”

Commissioner SESSI in his presentation said that during the 23-year history of the institution, the auditing and accounting processes were carried out for the first time and a surplus of more than Rs50 million was achieved.
