CHARSADDA, Nov 28: Al-Shifa Foundation of North America and Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Rawalpindi jointly organised a medical camp for the flood-affected people housed in a camp on the Sugar Mills Road here on Sunday.

The flood-affected people from surroundings of Charsadda living in the camp complained of living in miserable conditions because they have not received any assistance except medical facilities and clean drinking water since the end of Ramazan, says a press release.

Aslam Khan, the caretaker of the camp comprising 130 tents, complained this to Tahir Zafar, president of Al-Shifa Foundation of North America, who also met inmates of the camp and inquired about their problems on the occasion. At the one-day medical camp, a total of 471 patients, including 336 suffering from different eye diseases and 135 having other ailments, were examined and provided free medicines. Nine patients of eye diseases were referred to Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Rawalpindi, for further treatment while 120 persons with weak eyesight were provided spectacles free of charge.

Tahir Zafar also distributed biscuits and sweets among the children and provided cash assistance to the disabled.

The flood affected people told Mr Zafar that different NGOs had been providing them food items and other relief goods till the end of Ramazan but afterwards they received no assistance and were currently facing extremely difficult circumstances. They appealed to the government to extend financial assistance to them so that they could reconstruct their houses and rehabilitate their livelihoods. —Correspondent
