ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said Pakistan and Oman are working together for enhanced cooperation and a strategic partnership to seek development and peace in the region.

Speaking at a function held here on Sunday to celebrate the 40th National Day of the Sultanate of Oman, the Prime Minister said Pakistan and Oman are bound by a common history, shared values, faith, traditions and commonality of interests.

These common characteristics form the basis of a special relationship with Oman, he added. He congratulated Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al-Said and the people of Oman on the important landmark in the history of Oman.

He said, “Oman's success is Pakistan's success. We take pride in the achievements of the Sultanate of Oman.”

The Prime Minister said Pakistan admires the tremendous progress achieved by Oman under the sagacious, experienced and visionary leadership of Sultan Qaboos.

“It is also a matter of great pride for us that since its creation, hardworking and committed Pakistanis, have contributed towards Oman's development. Today, 175,000 Pakistanis continue to make their contribution,” he noted.

The Prime Minister expressed his best wishes for the sustained progress and prosperity of the people of Sultanate of Oman.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador of Oman Mohammad Said Mohammad Al-Lawati said people of the two countries are tied in bonds of brotherhood.

Relations of the two countries are strong and will further improve with their partnership in various fields, he added.

Federal ministers, parliamentarians and members of the diplomatic corps attended the event.
