KARACHI, Sept 22: The residents of D.D. Chowdry Road in Lyari have complained that the water shortage problem has been persisting in the locality for quite some time.

They said the water supply position in Lyari Town — including the areas of D.D Chowdry Road and old Dhobi Ghat — had not improved, despite assurances made by the KWSB offices.

A signed statement issued by the area people recalled the efforts made in this connection, but their efforts had no impact on the KWSB officials.

They recalled that a seminar on “Water crisis in Lyari” held some time ago, had demanded that the quantum of water supply to the area be increased, keeping in view the needs of a growing population, but the KWSB officials have not met the demand so far.

The residents held the defective water distribution system responsible for the water supply-related problems in the locality, saying that the system had totally collapsed because of water theft.

They said at present, the water-starved areas, including D.D Chowdry Road, old Dhobi Ghat and Baghdadi were facing an acute water shortage problem for the last couple of months, while the adjoining areas are getting regular water supply.

The residents further complained that sometimes, contaminated and turbid water was supplied to the locality. They urged the KWSB higher authorities to look into the water shortage problem and take early measures for its solution.

The residents of Ali Mohammad Mohalla also complained that the chronic water supply situation in the locality had not yet been solved, as work on a supply line on Shah Latif Bhittai Road aimed at providing water to the area remained suspended.
