PESHAWAR: Dozens of militants attacked a security forces patrol in the Orakzai tribal region, sparking a gun battle that left six insurgents dead, security sources said.

One soldier died in the gun fight, a security official said. The battle occurred in the Guavaak area of the tribal region.

Militants opened indiscriminate firing at the forces patrol which was retaliated by the security personnel.

Guavaak borders the Orakzai tribal region, where Taliban insurgents and al Qaeda militants often ambush security forces.
