ISLAMABAD, Nov 7: New tennis sensation Samir Iftikhar clinched Subh-e-Nau National Hard Court tennis championship, defeating Jalil Khan in the final at the Pakistan Sports Complex on Sunday.

Samir, 18, played three matches on the last day and won all of them by healthy margins.

In the men's singles semi-final earlier in the day, Samir defeated top seed and national champion Aqeel Khan 2-1.

Aqeel won the first set 6-0, however, Samir played superb tennis in the next two sets, winning them 6-4 and 6-3.

Later in the men's singles final against second seed Jalil, Samir once again gave a better performance and won in straight sets (6-1, 6-3).

He also clinched boys' U-18 title of the championship, hammering Mohammad Abid 6-4, 6-0.

Meanwhile, Ushna Sohail celebrated her hat-trick of title victories, trouncing Saba Aziz in the ladies singles final.

Saba could not contain Ushna's scare in the final decider losing the fixture 0-2.

Kashan-ul-Haq won boys' U-14 title after beating Talal Almas 4-2, 4-1.

National champion Aqeel Khan was awarded special prize for showing great sportsman spirit throughout the tournament. 17

Final: Samir Iftkhar bt Jalil Khan 6-1, 6-3.

Semi-final: Samir Iftkhar bt Aqeel Khan 0-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Boys' U-18:

Final: Samir Iftikhar bt Mohammad Abid 6-4, 6-0.

Ladies singles:

Final: Ushna Sohail bt Saba Aziz 6-1, 6-0.

Boys' U-14:
