RAWALPINDI: The National Junior Squash Championship will commence here from Friday at the courts of Benazir Bhutto Squash Complex, Rawalpindi.

As many as 188 players, including 25 women, will feature in the event that has returned to the city after a gap of 25 years, President Rawalpindi District Squash Association (RDSA) Asif Zafar Chaudhry told a news conference on Thursday.

The activity, which will be held in two categories of Under-19 and Under-13, will also be participated in by top seeded national players.

Asif said that squash greats Jahangir Khan and Jansher Khan would also be witnessing some of the contests and the presence of these legendary players will be a source of inspiration for budding players.

Asif, however, disclosed that neither the Punjab Squash Association nor the PSF had provided any finances for the event which he termed unfortunate.

“Had they provided us some support we would have been in a position to organise the championship in a much better way,” he said. He added that a total of Rs340,000 will be distributed among the winning players.—APP
