LAHORE, Nov 1: The Lahore High Court on Monday adjourned two identical petitions seeking extradition of former president General Pervez Musharraf and registration of a high treason case against him after Deputy Attorney-General Tanveer Hashimi sought more time to argue the case.

However, a petitioner's counsel, A.K. Dogar, opposed the request and requested the court to issue directions to register a high treason case against Musharraf as the apex court had already declared him guilty of high treason.

The counsel also sought permission from the court to submit new address of respondent Pervez Musharraf which Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed allowed.

The court was hearing two petitions filed by Ilamuddin Ghazi advocate and Aziz Ahmad Awan, levelling multiple allegations against the former military dictator.

Meanwhile, a division bench sent an Intra-Court Appeal (ICA) against exemption granted to General Musharraf in the 2007 presidential elections to the LHC chief justice for constitution of a larger bench.

Petitioner-counsel Muhammad Azhar Siddique filed the appeal in 2007, challenging the chief election commissioner's notification to exempt former president Pervez Musharraf from the operation of Article 63 and allow him to take part in the elections.

He contended that Musharraf could not have contested the presidential elections as Article 63 barred government servants from taking part in elections if they had not completed a period of two years after service. – APP
