ISLAMABAD, Oct 27: Eight players reached the main round of men's singles event while fifty-four matches were decided on the first day of the Subh-e-Nau National Clay Court tennis championship at the Pakistan Tennis Federation Complex on Wednesday.

On the opening day, Haseeb Yaqoob, Saad Zafar, Usman Rafique, Shahid Afridi, Asjad Aitzaz, Saeed-ul-Haq, Jahanzeb Khan and Farhad Ali Raja cruised to the next round.

The main round will begin at 9am on Thursday.

In the boys' under-18 fixtures, Yousuf Ajam, Ayaz Qazi, Asad Abdul Shakoor, Danish Ahmed, Rizwan Ahmed, Imad Aamer, Mohammad Mudassir and Salman bin Saleem reached the main round. Dawn

Meanwhile, Subh-e-Nau National Hard Court tennis championship will commence from Nov 2 at the Pakistan Sports Board, the organiser of the event told .

Competitions will be held in six different categories –– men's singles, ladies singles, men's doubles, girls U-18, boys U-18 and boys U-14.
