PESHAWAR: At least five people were killed and 30 others injured, four of them critical, as a result of bomb blast at main mosque of Peshtakhara Bala in suburbs of Peshawar here on Friday.

“The target was people in the mosque and the purpose was to create a scare,” said police official Mohammad Karim Khan. Most of the wounded sustained minor injuries, he said.

Hospital officials confirmed the casualties and police said the attack was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED).

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour on the occasion said that the action taken against miscreants had baffled them who had started targeting innocent people in religious places.
