Introducing bicycles

Published October 15, 2010

I suggest it is time that we introduce the 'bicycle culture' in our cities. Most of our younger lot prefer travelling on the motorcycle or the car even if they have to travel a few hundred metres.

Parents hand over the keys to their young ones before they have reached the legal age of driving.

This is making our generations lethargic and unhealthy. Traveling in public transport without being pushed around like a football is now a story of the past.

Switching to the bicycle will not only save millions of rupees spent on fuel, it will also help save the environment by reducing the pollution caused by carbon emissions.

Further, a person who rides a bicycle to his place of work/study automatically gets a perfect exercise two times a day.

This way he can keep fit and healthy and can reduce the money spent on health and fitness. If more people start using bicycles, it will reduce the burden on already overloaded public transport and improve standards.

Fewer vehicles will mean less damage to the road, helping the government save billions of rupees.

Hence, the benefits are countless.
