ISLAMABAD, Sept 6: The Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) hosted an admiration ceremony at the Pakistan Sports Complex here on Monday for boxer Mohammad Waseem, who recently made a major breakthrough by winning his first international gold medal in the Combat Games in Beijing, China.

Waseem was garlanded by coaches and senior players on the occasion.

He displayed good techniques and punching powers to register an 11-5 victory over Dagoverto Agoero of Dominica Republic in the 52kg weight division.

“It was a tough assignment as the world's top-ranking boxers were taking part in the event. After winning the gold in the event, I have the confidence that I can win medals in both mega events,” Waseem said.

The 21-year-old pugilist said he was training hard for both Commonwealth and Asian Games.

Meanwhile, Nasir, the coach for the camp that is underway at the Pakistan Sports Complex, said he had high hopes from Waseem.
