KARACHI, Sept 6: The collectorate of customs (export) on Friday foiled an attempt to export a consignment of counterfeit branded footballs to Dubai.

The staff of the collectorate posted at the East Wharf found gross discrepancies in quantity, weight and value of the consignment.

The exporter filed a bill of export to send 246 cartons, containing 12,300 pieces of non-branded leather footballs having synthetic cloth lamination and latex bladders, valuing $184,050, to Dubai, under the duty drawback claim.

However, on physical examination it was found that 6340 pieces of footballs were found to be short, out of the declared 12,300 pieces.

Similarly, 1,600 pieces of footballs, out of the ascertained quantity of 5,960 pieces, were found illegally embossed with international brands — Adidas, Puma and Nike, etc.

The consignment, valuing $184,050, was greatly over-invoiced as the quality of actual goods, including the counterfeit branded footballs, was clearly substandard.

A case under the provisions of section 16 & 32 of the Customs Act 1969, and Export (quality control) Order 1973, read with section 3 (I) of the Imports and Export Control Act 1950, has been registered, says a press release.
