ISLAMABAD, Sept 5: Chief Election Commissioner Irshad Hasan Khan on Thursday assured chief of the European Union observer mission, John Cushnahan, that the Election Commission has taken adequate steps to hold the elections in a free and fair atmosphere.

The CEC apprised Cushnahan, who called on him at Election House, of the steps taken to ensure free, fair and transparent elections. The CEC gave him some documents.

The chief election commissioner said the commission would act with neutrality, impartiality, objectivity and independence at every stage of the electoral process.

Mr Cushnahan appreciated the documentation which he received from the Chief Election Commissioner and said the material brought him up to date about the actions the CEC had taken regarding his role in conducting the elections. —APP
