KARACHI, Sept 5: The last date to apply for the Chevening scholarships 2003-4 is September 13.

This was announced in a British Council statement on Thursday.

It said that application forms are available at select TCS centres, and can also be downloaded from the British Council’s website, www.britishcouncil.org.pk.

The scholarships — which are funded by the British Government’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office and managed in Pakistan by the British High Commission and the British Council — are part of a global scheme. These are for one year post-graduate study in Britain.

The scholarships are being offered in the subject areas of business administration, design, economics, environmental studies, gender studies, human rights, international relations, law, management, media studies, public administration and social development.

The candidates must have a masters degree or a four year bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in Pakistan, or the equivalent from an overseas institution, and should not be more than 40 years of age.

They must have a minimum of three years’ work experience and must be citizens of Pakistan and should not have received any British government funded academic awards in the past three years.

It was stated that since the scheme began in Pakistan in 1983, more than 750 Pakistani scholars have benefited from the programme.

Later this month, 47 scholars selected for this year’s programme will leave for Britain to begin their studies.—APP
