NAWABSHAH, Aug 23 The Nawabshah chapter of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement has demanded that the district administration and irrigation department should demolish private bunds raised illegally in the kutcha belt by some influential landlords.

Shiraz Masood, in-charge of MQM's Nawabshah chapter, said in a press release issued here on Monday said that an influential landlord of Sakrand had raised an illegal dyke in the Indus to save his farmland spread over hundreds of acres.

He said that the private bund was continuously building up pressure on the river embankments and might cause a major disaster.

DCO Jamal Mustafa Syed admitted to the existence of the zamindari bund but said he was not sure about its measurement. The revenue officials would be able to provide further details, he said.

EDO (revenue) Rasheed Ahmed Zardari said that the zamindari bund was raised around over 200 acres of banana crop and an ancestral graveyard belonging to a landlord. But they had not yet received any complaint or request from the irrigation department to demolish it, he said.

He said that there were clear directives from the chief minister to clear water way and remove all zamindari bunds and the irrigation department was supposed to provide information on such bunds in the area.

He said that if the irrigation department requested they would provide all help and assistance including police to flatten the dyke.

Executive engineer of Dad irrigation division Aziz Ahmed Junejo said that the private bund opposite Mehrabpur was creating great hurdle to smooth passage of water and he had already written a letter to the district administration to help demolish it immediately.
