DERA GHAZI KHAN, July 28 High flood in Kaha Sultan hill torrent after heavy rains in Balochistan and on Sulaiman Range again threatened some villages here on Wednesday.

Wednesday's flood in the hill torrent also alarmed the district administration, which is struggling to rehabilitate the people displaced by recent floods.

Rajanpur district government's spokesman Mr Aga said 60,000 cusec water was passing through Kaha Sultan hill torrent on Wednesday.

The flood could hit Bambly, Chitol, Tibbi Solgi, Meranpur, Hajipur, Dhundi, Fazilpur and Lakha villages, which were already inundated by floodwater.

In Gujranwala, floodwater from the River Chenab entered more than a dozen villages near Wazirabad and destroyed crops on a vast area.

Chenab was in high flood here on Wednesday. Officials said that water exit from Head Marrala was 224,000 cusec and Head Khanki 226,000 cusec.

In Vehari, thousands of acres of land were inundated after an 85-foot breach in Khadar Link Canal near Allahabad village on Tuesday night. The locals said that irrigation officials were doing nothing to fill the breach. They said the canal water also entered houses and dozens of mud houses collapsed. More than two dozens families were shifted to nearby villages after canal water entered their houses.

Chenab was also in high flood at Head Marala near Sialkot where a flash flood safely passed through and the situation was under control on Wednesday.

Senior officials of the Sialkot Irrigation department said the flow of water was 249,670 cusec at Head Marala and the water level was continuously souring in Chenab due to heavy rains in the Sialkot region and in catchment areas of neighbouring Occupied Jammu & Kashmir.

They said three villages were inundated due to flood in Chenab near Bajwat. At least 13 villages with standing paddy and other seasonal crops were also inundated owing to flood in River Tavi near Saidpur. They said the relief operation was continuing in flood-hit villages.

The Sialkot district has been divided into 17 sectors and 34 sub-sectors to combat the recurring flood threats. At least 34 flood relief camps have also been established.

In Multan, district administration warned the residents settled along both sides of the Chenab River to shift to safer places in view of a low flood that would pass after 72 hours.

DCO Muhammad Khurram Agha said “Flow of 200,000 cusec is expected to pass from Chenab which can affect the people settled in the reverine areas.”

He said 17 flood camps had been established for the relief work in case of flood while revenue officers were deputed there with plenty of ration and medicines.

The DCO said that almost all the animals had been vaccinated in riverine areas. He said that complaints about the relief operation could be lodged at the control room.

He said arrangements to combat the flood-like situation had been finalised by the Civil Defense and the Rescue 1122.
