KARACHI, Aug 25: The city government will launch a 3-day polio vaccination campaign from September 2. This was stated at a meeting of city government councillors and union nazimeen, convened here to brief them on polio before the start of the campaign.

It was learnt that Pakistan is among those six countries where polio is still prevalent, as 35 polio cases have been detected here.

Out of the 35 polio cases detected, 12 are in Sindh, and the disease can only be eliminated by a consistent vaccination campaign targeting children. The role of nazimeen and naib nazimeen was highly significant to make these anti-polio campaigns a success.

The meeting was told that 5000 teams have been formed, and each councillor will be at the head of one team, while the rest will give drops of the vaccine to children in hospitals and medical centres.

Addressing the meeting, city Nazim Naimatullah Khan asked the counsellors and nazimeen to cooperate with the officials and teams of the health department. —APP
