LAHORE, June 10 Wapda won the Asian Clubs Hockey Championship after beating defending champions Malaysias Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club 2-0 in the final played in Matale, Sri Lanka.

Chef de Mission of the Wapda team Khalid Mahmood while speaking to Dawn from Matale on Thursday said that Rehan Butt and Farhan scored one each to beat the reigning champions in front of a packed to capacity crowd. He said by winning the event, Wapda has now qualified for the World Cup Clubs Championship, which will be held in Barcelona, Spain, next year.

Khalid said that the team was lucky to be including notable Olympians Rehan Butt, Sohail Abbas (captain), Waqas Sharif and Wasim Ahmed.

Meanwhile, the PHF President Qasim Zia, Secretary Asif Bajwa and Wapda Sports Board headed by Naveed Akram Cheema have congratulated the Wapda team for winning the title.
