KARACHI, Aug 23: Chairperson Shahida Welfare Trust, Shahida Kausar Farooq, has congratulated President Pervez Musharraf and Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz for withdrawing 15 per cent GST on medicines.

In a statement on Friday, Shahida said that the imposition of GST had overburdened poor people and added to their problems.

The government of Pervez Musharraf, while timely realizing the difficulties of the people, withdrew the tax, which is a welcome step for them, she added.

Chairperson SWT said it is also the responsibility of the government to take steps to ensure that these medicines are not sold at a price which includes GST.

She also appealed to the president to withdraw GST on edible oil and ghee.—APP
