KARACHI, Aug 23: The wife of the Sindh governor, Begum Khadija Soomro, has called for undertaking concerted efforts to ensure that every child acquires an education.

She said this while visiting the Junior Model School (girls) in PECHS here on Friday.

Begum Soomro also stressed the need of imparting education to girls.

She pledged to undertake efforts towards bringing about improvements in the poor localities in the province.

Begum Soomro also pointed towards the steps that have been taken for the promotion of education, which included compulsory primary education, free education up to secondary school level and scholarship for girl students from class 6th to 8th, which will annually benefit some 100,000 girls.

She said that local governments have been provided with funds for the promotion of education.

Begum Soomro also urged the officials concerned to initiate steps in collaboration with the community for the promotion of education.

She appreciated the free distribution of text books and other measures taken by the city district government.

Begum Soomro, who has adopted the Junior Model School under the ‘Adopt-A-School Scheme,’ visited its various sections and issued directives for its expansion.
