PHF inter-academy tournament

LAHORE, May 27 Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) will assess the work of its academies by holding an inter-academy tournament at the National Hockey Stadium here from May 31 to June 12.

The academies have been working for the last one year in 10 different cities under paid coaches. The cities where the academies were set up are Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Karachi (two), Gojra, Hyderabad, Bahawalpur, Abbottabad and Peshawar.

Tournament Director Olympian Shafqat Malik has said that the tournament will not only provide a competitive atmosphere to the players, it would also help the PHF to evaluate the performances of the coaches associated with the academies. Shafqat has also invited the former greats of the game to come and watch the young players in action during the tournament.—Sports Reporter
