ISLAMABAD Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Wednesday that the government and people of Pakistan were determined to defeat terrorism with the support of the international community.

Talking to Arab League's Secretary-General Amr Moussa in Cairo, he said the government had achieved successes on different fronts because of people's support and a national consensus against terrorism.

According to a press release issued by the Foreign Office here, the foreign minister said eliminating terrorism was the only option although the country had suffered enormously.

He said the democratic government had inherited multiple challenges.

Mr Qureshi said Pakistan and India had to resolve their disputes peacefully so that the region could realise its development potential. He said Pakistan was looking forward to a sustained and result-oriented engagement with India on the basis of sovereign equality and mutual respect.

The foreign minister reiterated Pakistan's complete support to an Afghanistan-led reconciliation process in the neighbouring country.

Mr Moussa praised Pakistan's principled support for resolving the Middle East conflict on the basis of a two-state solution and briefed the minister on ongoing proximity talks between Palestinians and Israel and the situation in Sudan. —APP
