MITHI, April 25 In the wake of severe shortage of drinking water in arid zones of Tharparkar and Umerkot districts, the provincial government has installed reverse osmosis plants in 29 towns and villages to make underground brackish water fit for human consumption.

The decision to this effect was taken in view of failure of several tubewell schemes in the desert. The task of installing the plants was given to the Sindh Coal Authority which has successfully completed the assignment.

According to Senator Gul Mohammad Memon, Chairman of the Tharparkar development committee, 44 reverse osmosis plants sanctioned by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, would be installed through the Sindh Coal Authority in Tharparkar.

The areas which have benefited from the plants include Mithi, Diplo, Chhachhro, Kaloi, Kantio, Modoor, Rohilo, Khankhiniar, Khetlari, Mithrio Soother, Gogasar, Hafizabad, Shahmir Ji Dhani, Dhoor Ghadro, Odani, Eidani, Islamkot, Jese Jo Paar and Pirane Jo Paar.
