The 57th National Hockey Championship has the honour of being the first national hockey event whose winner will be sent to participate in foreign club championships.

Wapda, this year's winner, is being sent to Sri Lanka in May to participate in the club competition there.

“From this year onwards, we have introduced this new incentive by which the triumphant team in our national championship will be sent abroad to participate in club championships. PHF will send the entire 22-member Wapda squad to Sri Lanka next month,” announced federation Secretary Asif Bajwa at the conclusion of the event.

“We also sent the Gojra Hockey Club to participate in the club championships that were held in Malaysia last year,” he informed.

“It was just my suggestion to our President Qasim Zia, which he considered after taking into account the fact that all the departmental teams fitted the FIH's club team requirements,” he explained.
