ISLAMABAD, April 19 The 19th National Karate Championship goes into action on Tuesday at the Liaquat Gymnasium.

Secretary of the Pakistan Karate Federation, Shamim Hashmi told Dawn on Monday that affiliated units — Wapda, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Railways, Pakistan Police, Pakistan Air Force, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, NWFP, Fata and Islamabad would test their mettle in the two-day championship.

Preliminary and finals of the individual Kata and team Kata in 84Kg, 75Kg, 67Kg and below 60Kg will be held on the opening day of the event.

Wapda will defend its title in the championship.

Meanwhile, the referees and judges' course organised by the PKF is scheduled to commence on Wednesday in which thirty-nine officials will participate.
