ISLAMABAD, Aug 17: All Pakistan Minorities Alliance (APMA), has constituted a selection committee to receive and scrutinize applications of minorities candidates and finalize a list for filing nominations both for National and Provincial assemblies.

Shahbaz Bhatti, chairman of the APMA, told journalists on Saturday that the alliance was fielding its candidates through political parties against 10 National assembly seats and 23 Provincial assembly seats reserved for minorities in the four provinces.

“We shall also field our candidates for the Senate of Pakistan,” he added.

The APMA chief expressed hope that with the presence of minorities legislators in assemblies, they would be able to represent effectively the religious minorities of the country in the higher elected bodies.

He also appealed to minorities to field their candidates through the APMA as discussions with political parties in this regard, were in the final process.

Bhatti said the minorities vote bank would contribute to the victory or defeat of the political party as according to him there were eight to 10 constituencies where minority candidate could easily win on general seats.

He said the APMA had started mass contact campaign to mobilize minorities so that they effectively exercised their right of adult franchise.—APP
