KARACHI, Aug 15: A Balochi folk-dance ‘Leva’— a circle dance performed by a group of people—is a marked feature of August 14 celebrations in the Darayabad Union Council of Lyari Town.

It was performed by the youths of the locality in the night of Independence Day near a government primary school on Fidha Husain Shaika Road (Darayabad UC section).

The atmosphere wore festival look with the nearby buildings illuminated and Pakistani flags prominently displayed on all the buildings. Elders of the locality and representatives of local bodies were also invited to witness this special event.

When the clock ticked 12 am, the sound of the national anthem began with the unfurling of a big national flag by the UC chairman. It was immediately followed by the Leva performance when the youths formed a circle and began the dance which lasted till 3 am. A large number of people had come to see the show.

Another colourful event was held in Baghdadi where a grand folk music show was organized by a local NGO in collaboration with an international NGO.
