KARACHI, Aug 15: Sindh Governor Mohammadmian Soomro will preside over the stone laying ceremony of phase-II of the Karachi Medical and Dental College on Aug 16 at its new campus in North Nazimabad.

Presently, the KMDC is situated in two buildings. Some of its departments including the administration block, lecture hall, seminar room, dentistry block, pool and some recreational facilities are situated on a plot allotted to the college at Allama Rasheed Turabi Road, block M, of North Nazimabad Town.

The main college is situated in the building of a maternity home and dispensary situated in block 16, F.B Area in Gulberg Town. This building contains the department of behavioural sciences, pathology department, chemistry department, pharmacology department, physiology and anatomy departments besides the library, parts of the dentistry and administration blocks.

After the construction of phase-II is expected to be completed by July 2004, all these departments can be shifted in to one building, and the status of the maternity home will be restored.—PPI
