KARACHI, Aug 9: Jamiat-i-Ulema-i-Islam (Samiul Haq group), an important faction of Muttahida Majlis-i-Aml (MMA), an alliance of six religious parties, left the electoral alliance on Friday following some differences.

The differences in the alliance developed when JUI-S demanded its share in the national and provincial assemblies at a MMA Sindh meeting held in Karachi with its chief Asadullah Bhutto in the chair.

The meeting was convened to finalize distribution of National and Provincial Assembly seats among the component parties of alliance, comprising Jamaat-i-Islami, Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan, Jamiat-i-Ahl-i-Hadees and Millat-i-Jaferya Pakistan.

The JUI-S central leadership had endorsed the decision, Maulana Mufti Usman Yar, central vice-president of the party, said while confirming the reports. A formal announcement in this regard would be made shortly, he added.

He said that the idea behind forming MMA was to challenge the conspiracies of anti-Islamic elements, but to their surprise it even failed to do justice among its member parties. “If there are injustices in the alliance, why should one stick to such an alliance,” he said.

Mufti Usman Yar was of the view that the distribution of seats and electoral adjustments must be based on an equal basis. “If Millat-i-Jaferya Pakistan is being provided with one seat of National Assembly, then two seats of Provincial Assembly must be given to other parties having different beliefs,” he maintained.

He said that the central executive committee of JUI-S was scheduled to meet soon at which the party’s line of action would be discussed.—PPI
