KARACHI, Aug 6: The work on Rs 40 million upgradation of Banaras Chowk under Phase-III of Khushhal Pakistan Programme started with a formal foundation-stone laying ceremony performed by Nazim Karachi, Naimatullah Khan here on Monday evening.

The scheme involves improvement and signalisation of the chowk which will be completed by November this year.

According to project details, 16 signals will be installed at Banaras Chowk while 321,180 sq feet of the area will be carpeted and 3255 feet of footpaths constructed.

The City Government is carrying out construction and repair of roads on priority basis. These included the roads which are in a very dilapidated condition.

On completion of this scheme, the people of Orangi Town and around Banaras Chowk will have improved traffic flow.

Earlier, the City Nazim also laid the foundation-stone of construction and repair of Shahrah-e-Chishti as part of this scheme. —APP
