KARACHI, Aug 4: Sale of the so-called mineral water has shot up in the city due to continuous supply of muddy water to various parts of the metropolis.

A visit to different markets reveals that medical and general stores are nowadays doing a roaring business by charging exorbitant rates of even those mineral water bottles which often remain unsold for months owing to their reported substandard quality.

Owner of a shop in Adamjee Market, Tipu Sultan Road, told Dawn that the sale of mineral water had recently gone up in the wake of the supply of muddy water to the city. “As stock of the few reputed firms often gets exhausted, people coming to my shop do not hesitate to buy even the unbranded cans of mineral water,” he observed.

Similarly, shopkeepers in the main Tariq Road’s commercial area said mineral water bottles were currently being sold like hot cakes.

At a time when newspapers are flooded with reports of health hazards being caused by consumption of muddy water, the KWSB officials remain unmoved, except for claiming that the muddy water is not harmful for health.
