Growers face water crisis

Published July 30, 2002

SUKKUR, July 29: A serious crisis was threatening the entire Sindh on Monday due to fall in the water level at the Chashma Barrage, it was officially learnt.

Sources said that the Sindh irrigation department would receive 22,000 cusecs less water from Chashma after the level there fell from 160,000 cusecs to 148,000 cusecs.

The shortage can cause a serious water crisis for different crops and the department would be unable to supply water to the growers for the Kharif crop.

Irrigation Secretary Mir Mohammad Panhyar directed all the superintending engineers to prepare a comprehensive plan and arrange the distribution of water among the growers on a rotation basis.
