MINGORA, Oct 12 Security forces on Monday abolished checkposts on the road between Mingora and Malakand protected area.

According to the Swat Media Centre, the decision was taken on people's complaints that it wasted their time and created difficulties for them.

The people of the region welcomed the decision by the security forces to abandon the checkposts. They said passengers had to wait for long hours due to checking on the road.

They said businessmen of the Malakand division had suffered huge losses due to prolonged curfews and fighting between security forces and militants, and the road barricades were further affecting them as they faced problems in transporting commodities to the region.

GHALANAI Suspected militants opened fire on participants of funeral prayer for the father of naib subedar Niaz Gul of the Khasadar force in the Ambar tehsil of Mohmand Agency on Monday.

The incident took place in the Khwaizi Baizi area. The firing forced the participants to flee.

However, none of them was killed or injured.

It may be mentioned here that the people of Ambar have set up a lashkar to eliminate militants in their area.

DROWN Two children drowned in a well in the Mosa Kor Ghanam Shah area of Baizai tehsil on Monday.

Kainat and Mujahid, aged about five, were playing when they fell into the well. Their bodies were retrieved by villagers after two hours.
