KARACHI, Sept 7 Medicam XI and Tapal CC scored comprehensive victories in the two preliminary round matches decided in the 22nd Aga Khan Gymkhana State Life Ramazan Festival Twenty20 cricket tournament at the AKG Ground on Sunday.

Medicam XI overpowered Factdate Engineering by 99 runs in the Group 'B' fixture that was played in the first half of the day.

Man-of-the-match Nadeem Karamat hammered 75 off 49 deliveries with four sixes and as many fours while opener Abdur Rauf, the Pakistan paceman, slammed four boundaries in a 32-ball 43 as Medicam XI piled up 170-5.

Factdate Engineering, in reply, limped to 71 for eight with spinners Zeeshan Aziz (2-4 in two overs) and Ariz Kamal (2-9 in four overs) bowling to a teasing length.

Hanif-ur-Rehman (57 off 28 balls, eight fours and two sixes) and Abbas Jaffrey's undefeated 52 off 41 balls with a brace of sixes and one four guided Tapal CC to 183-3 after F.B. Academy chose to field first at the toss in the Group 'D' tie. The openers shared a partnership of 77.

Spin duo Salman Fazal (2-13) and Akhtar Kiyani (2-17) then restricted F.B. Academy to 83 for seven as Tapal CC ran out comfortable winners by exactly 100 runs.

Later, chief guest Khaliq Pasnani, the AKG secretary, adjudicated Abbas Jaffrey as man-of-the-match for his fine batting and two brilliant catches.
