GILGIT, Nov 3: The air and road service to Gilgit, Baltistan and other parts of Northern Areas remained suspended with the rest of the country due to bad weather and heavy landsliding on Karakorum Highway.

The Karakorum Highway has been closed for traffic due to heavy landsliding in the Kohistan district. Frontier Works Organization sources said that a landslide hit KKH in Dasu, disrupting all kinds of traffic between Rawalpindi and Northern Areas since Friday midnight.

The air service to Northern Areas also remained suspended for the last three days due to inclement weather. Rains and snowfall over hilltops have been continuing for the last 48 hours in Northern Areas.

The Gilgit-Khunjerab portion of the KKH was also blocked for traffic due to landslides at Nasirabad and Yal Parri, Hunza.

Gilgit-Skardu road was also hit by landslide at Thangus area. The FWO sources said that work for restoration of traffic on KKH was on and it was likely to be opened shortly. However, passenger buses and other vehicles left Gilgit for Rawalpindi on Saturday morning.

Reports reaching here said that rains and snowfall in Hunza, Astore, Nagar, Chilas, Gakutch, Jeglote, and Gojal (upper Hunza) were still continuing which had disturbed routine life in the area.
