GILGIT, July 12 Two prisoners escaped from jail here on Sunday.

According to police, cases against the accused were under-trial in various courts. Police identified them as Sajid and Nasir.

Meanwhile, the courts in Gilgit-Baltistan were closed for summer vacation, officials said.

The courts usually remain closed from July 12 and resume work on August 1 every year, they added. However, a judge has also been appointed to dispose off urgent cases.

NAS BUDGET Northern Areas Legislative Assembly speaker Malik Mohammad Miskeen has summoned regular session of the house as Finance Advisor Mirza Hussain formally requisitioned the budget session.

Assembly Secretariat sources said the session has been called so that the advisor on finance could present the regional budget for 2009-10.

AGA KHAN The Ismaili Muslims observed the Imamat Day of the Aga Khan throughout the Northern Areas.

The day was dawned with special prayers in Jamat Khanas for the prosperity and integrity of the country. Speakers on the occasion stressed promotion of brotherhood among all schools of thoughts.
