Kalri Lake in a shambles

Published July 3, 2009

HYDERABAD has few recreational spots. One of them is Kalri Lake. I visited the lake with my family recently and was disappointed by the deteriorating condition of the lake, huts, restaurant, swings, boats, trees, and pathways.

The water of the lake was not clean, and mud could be seen around the lake. The huts were in a shabby condition and there were no arrangements of electricity and water in them.

Food in the restaurant was very expensive and not edible either.

Most of the swings and their chairs were broken. Boats were so dirty to ride in and the charge of one small round was Rs700, which was not affordable for most of the visitors.

All the trees and plants had turned dry due to lack of attention. The route from huts to the lake was dug up.

Stray dogs roamed around and it was likely they may bite some children. Some visitors threw wrappers, bottles and peel of fruits in the lake as a heap of rubbish gathered on its bank.

There was no proper arrangement of lights and it was almost dark after sunset. There was no facility of first aid as well.

The distance between Hyderabad and the Kalri Lake is 77km but the road was dilapidated after hardly 20km.

I appeal to the visitors to the Kalri Lake not to throw anything which can spoil the beauty of the lake and is dangerous for the people and marine life too.

The relevant authorities are requested to keep first aid facility and make proper arrangements to clear the garbage on time.
